How Lessly handles your data

Effective October 31, 2026

Lessly finds the product in your photo or link and shows you where to buy it for less. This page explains what we keep to do that, how your searches make results better for everyone, and what you can ask us to delete.

What we collect

Your photo or link. We use the full photo to recognize the product while your search runs. We do not keep the full photo. We keep a small thumbnail (about 240 pixels) so your search history can show what you searched.

Your search results. We store the product we recognized, the stores and prices we found, and the ZIP code if you entered one.

What you do with results. We record when you open a store link, rate a result, or report a wrong price or broken link.

Your account, if you create one. Your name, email address, and a securely hashed password, or the basic profile your sign-in provider shares if you use one. For security we also record the IP address and browser of each signed-in session.

You can search without an account. Those searches are stored the same way but are not linked to you.

How your searches improve Lessly

When you search for a product, we remember the stores and prices we found, so the next person who searches for the same product gets results faster. When shoppers open a store link or confirm a result, that store ranks higher for that product. When shoppers report a wrong price or broken link, it gets checked again or removed.

This learning uses product and store information, not your photo or identity. The Popular page counts how often products are searched across everyone, and shows only retailer names, images, and prices.

We also use confirmed products to test changes to Lessly before we release them, so that an update does not make results worse.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for advertising. We share data only with the services that run Lessly:

  • Anthropic receives your photo or link to recognize the product, and the product name to search stores. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
  • Retailers and search providers receive the product name, never your photo or account, so we can find prices and product images.
  • SimplyCodes receives the web address of each store in your results, such as bestbuy.com, so we can show promo codes that work there. It never receives your photo, the product you searched, or your account.
  • Vercel, Fly.io, and Neon host the website, the service that runs searches, and our database.
  • Sign-in providers such as Google or Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them.

When you open a store link, you leave Lessly, and that retailer's privacy policy applies. Some links are affiliate links, so the retailer may know the visit came from Lessly, and we may earn a commission. That does not change the price you pay.

Cookies

We use one cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

How long we keep data

We keep your search history and account until you delete them. Stored store and price information for a product is replaced each time someone searches for that product again.

When you delete your account, we remove it along with your search history, photo thumbnails, and ratings. Store clicks and reports you made stay only as anonymous product signals, with nothing linking them to you.

Your choices

You can delete your account and search history at any time from your account settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

You can also ask us to send you a copy of your data or correct it. Email privacy@lessly.co from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, for example California or the EU, you may have additional rights under local law, and we honor those requests the same way.

Lessly is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and its effective date. For significant changes, we will let signed-in users know before they take effect.
